Harvey J. Scott is a pioneer in a number of ways. He was the first person in his family to graduate from high school, graduate from college, compete in college athletics, finish graduate school, serve a LDS Church mission, live overseas, start a business (and sell a business) and learn a foreign language. (He points out that he’s not the last in any of these feats.) He’s also an intriguing blend of rural farmer and Ivy League-educated business leader, whose plans for 2025 are so exciting that he couldn’t share them with us. One thing we do know for 2025 is that he’s the chair of the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce, building the valley every day.
Dealer’s Choice I’m an early riser (I have a farm to run) and do my morning routine. Then, I have meetings through the morning and have been eating far too many lunches as of late! Then, in the afternoon, I will have more meetings before I come home and check the animals, go through my evening routine and then go back to sleep.
The Flop Finding that every struggle, every challenge, every hiccup in my life has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Just be patient.
Hand You Were Dealt A challenge I’ve had has been bucking the worldly idea that I have to prove myself and replacing it with absolute determination to improve myself.
Shuffle the Cards My nephew passed away when I was 19 years old. It made me question everything I thought I valued. His life completely changed mine.
Go-to Game Settlers of Catan.
Preferred Playing Partners I’d like to play with Justin Su’a and John Chester. They are two of the most understated, intelligent, interesting people in America.
Wild Card I can castrate a pig.
The 2025 Deck I can’t tell you what my real bucket list item is for 2025 — it’s gonna change the world!
Ace Eats Redmond Cafe. I order the chile pork skillet.
Hit the Jackpot I’d buy more farmland.
Tomorrow’s Bets I see myself continuing to invest my time and resources in my family, friends and our beautiful valley.
