Rising star and homegrown country artist Whitney Lusk is “playing her hand” (and her guitar) on stages from L.A. to Nashville. Whitney graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 2016. Within the first few years of her musical career, she’s gone from playing in front of modest live audiences to headlining her own sold-out shows. She’s even shared the stage with some of country music’s biggest names like Josh Turner, Russell Dickerson, Maddie & Tae and Granger Smith. Whitney has independently written, recorded and produced much of her own music, including her latest EP, “Good As It Gets.” One of her original songs, “Anthems of My Life,” was a key part to receiving an offer for a publishing deal in Nashville. We’re cheering for you, Whitney!
Dealer’s Choice As an artist, my days rarely look the same. Some days are spent in the studio recording songs. Some are spent writing songs — I like to get a few songs started a week. Some days are spent doing photoshoots or videos for content and song visuals. Some are spent traveling with my band to shows, playing for hundreds and sometimes thousands of people, then heading to the next city to play another.
The Flop A great surprise was the night I was called to open for Russell Dickerson at The Union in Salt Lake City. I really enjoy surprises like this, because they reaffirm to me that I am capable of succeeding as an artist and others are taking notice.
Shuffle the Cards Getting married opened my eyes and changed my artistic viewpoint for the better. I’ve always wanted to do music, but I wasn’t 100 percent sure what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. I have a lot more life under my belt since I started writing songs 10+ years ago, and with that has come a desire to write songs about real life, real love and the joys that entails. My husband and I bonded over our love for country music, so I’ve really enjoyed getting his input on my songs and having someone who understands the beauties of the genre hear my first drafts.
Wild Card I work as a CNA and administrative assistant during most weekdays — a lot of people are shocked to find out I’m able to put time into both.
